Now that your children have grown up and moved away to start lives of their own, your nest may suddenly feel empty. A home once filled with the comings and goings of kids now seems to have a good deal of available space. So what are you going to do with all that extra room? Here’s an idea: create a fabulous storage space.
We’re not talking about an ordinary, run-of-the-mill closet. No, this is a luxurious space that’s beautiful, spacious and organized. How does that sound? How about storage for all your clothes and every pair of shoes — would that appeal to you? Consider it done! Then what about spaciousness that accommodates a slipper chair and, perhaps, a dressing table — is the very thought making you smile? Let’s add those in, too. Since rooms often need to do double duty, let’s tuck a bed in there somewhere, so that guests have a place to sleep. You might want to begin thinking about the décor you love. Are you getting the idea?
After you paint the walls a gorgeous color, let’s start by adding the clothes and shoes. Closet organizers are the key. Just like all those makeover shows on television, if you install racks and shelves so that everything has a place, it looks great. Besides, you’ll be able to find everything without hunting through all the stuff you’re not trying to find. You might even consider having elegant cabinets installed. With racks inside and doors that conceal the contents, it gives the whole room the polished look of an armoire. Imagine the possibilities.
Make Room for Guests
While you’re at it, this would be a good time to think about installing that guest bed. If the room is large enough, you could place a sofa bed along one wall, giving you a pretty and comfortable place to sit or to lay out outfits, while also affording guests a cozy sleeping place. For a sleeker look, you could install a Murphy bed. Just like the cabinets we were talking about for your clothes, the Murphy bed would be hidden behind closed doors until needed. Then the bed unfolds from the wall, ready for use.
For a little glamour, you could add that slipper chair we mentioned earlier or even a low chaise. Upholstered in velvet, satin or brocade, it would be a wonderfully feminine place to sit while you put your shoes on. Add that dressing table next for styling your hair and applying your makeup. Then, for pure self-indulgence, add a dazzling chandelier. Are you beginning to feel like a movie star?
